Discover How Physicist Vanessa Survived in Amires

We are happy to say that we regularly open our door for a university student for an internship. This summer we chose Vanessa- the future Master of Science in Physics. You might wonder how a person coming from fundamental academic research can asset from a consulting company. It was challenging for her to focus more on the business part of the research, but she understood that Amires’ work also requires scientific and technical comprehension in various scientific fields. We wished to know her feedback about her stay with us, therefore we asked Vanessa to share her experience.

Yes, Vanessa is studying Physics at the University of Heidelberg in Germany and will be graduating with a Master of Science this fall. She conducted her Bachelor’s and Master’s research at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in the Division of Medical Physics in Radiology, mainly working on high-field magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of the human brain. During her time at AMIRES, she worked together with several project managers and data analysts in order to get an insight into their versatile daily activities with interesting research topics focusing on the strategic fields of Energy Efficiency, Additive Manufacturing, Photonics, Flexible Electronics, and Regenerative Medicine and Medical Devices.

“What I liked the most about the job was the fact, that it requires not only administrative and management tasks, but also a scientific and technical comprehension for research and innovation projects in various scientific fields.  At the same time, I also acquired soft and administrative skills which will be helpful for my upcoming PhD studies, as well as for any future job I will work on afterwards” said Vanessa.

Vanessa got also the opportunity to learn about the various funding schemes of the European Union (H2020, FP7), as well as how much hard work needs to be done to create international sustainable partnerships and cooperation.

“My upcoming work as a scientist in an international working environment will definitely benefit from the knowledge, I have gained during my time here at AMIRES.

Amires team had a pleasure to co-work with her and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. Each generation brings with its greater tech-savvy than the last and each brings its own unique approaches. After our experiences we encourage companies to take the opportunity to involve youth people and seek their feedback. These interactions provide them the opportunity to incorporate what they’ve taught themselves into the real world.
