Economic Benefits of IP for Europe
In a joint study by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), an impact of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on the European economy was analyzed. The study found out that more than 42 % of the total economic activity in EU is generated by IPR-intensive industries. Moreover, about 38 % of EU employment is said to arise from businesses with higher than average use of IPR. Wages in such industries are more than 46 % higher than in other industries.
According to the EPO President Benoît Battistelli „Intellectual property assets are increasingly important for innovating companies, especially for SMEs, but also for research centres and universities. They have a positive impact on jobs, economic growth and prosperity in Europe.”
