EU projects – Technology Scouting – Business Innovation

ISFOE 2017 Key Takeaways

ISFOE is the biggest scientific & technology event in Flexible Organic & Printed Electronics (OEs). This year researchers, scientists, engineers, business managers, and policy makers from 59 countries participated to the event from 3 to 6 July in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Innovative experimental and commercial materials including special polymers and metallic nanomaterials for the development of organic electronics were presented during the first day. Industries and research centres were describing different methods for the mass production of OEs including printing technologies, R2R processes, laser technologies, in-line quality control, etc. AMIRES presented the concept of the pilot lines for flexible electronics of the two EU projects PI-SCALE and InSCOPE during the workshop Manufacturing and laser technologies. A special workshop was dedicated to Graphene and another workshop on 5 July was focused on Smart Textile and Wearables with the presentation of potential applications and demonstrators. Dr. Dionysios Manessis, coordinator of  the MEDILIGHT project that develops a smart device for chronic wound healing, presented the last project achievements and opportunities for the exploitation of the results. During the Biosensors workshop, research results for RNA, DNA and biomarkers detection were presented including the role of functionalized gold nanoparticles developed within ULTRAPLACAD project by the group of Prof. Giuseppe Spoto.

On 6 July, the Greek vice-minister for Environment, Energy and Climate change Dr. Socrates Famellos joined the workshop Renewable Energy and Storage, highlighting the importance of renewable energy sources and reuse of materials. Materials and technologies for low-carbon energy and for energy storage were presented by CEA and LEITAT.
