€100B proposed for the upcoming EU Famework Programme

A € 100 billion budget has been proposed for the upcoming EU framework research and innovation programme (so-called Horizon Europe), which constitutes an increase of €27 billion compared to the current Horizon 2020 programme. This proposed budget includes €97.6 billion for the upcoming Horizon Europe programme and €2.7 for Euratom nuclear research programme for years 2021 – 2027. The total budget could even increase if Switzerland, Israel, Norway and the United Kingdom join the programme as well. The UK already expressed its interest to take part in the new EU programme. Modifications to the final figure are expected before a unanimous agreement by EU’s member states and an approval by the Parliament are reached. One of the key topics to discuss will be how to fill in the budgetary gap after exiting of UK.
