| A report on the healing effect of blue light was featured on RTS TV! The report shows a personalized, light-based dressing for chronic wounds, which has been developed as a result of the MEDILIGHT project, which received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 644267.
Chronic wounds which fail to follow the typical healing process or timeframe are notoriously challenging to treat. Their burden is significant, affecting over 40 million patients and costing healthcare systems €40 billion annually. Urgo Medical aspired to create a dressing able to both stimulate self-healing with light and adapt to the individual patient, thus going beyond existing non-personalized nanoparticle-based solutions.
Urgo worked with 6 more partners in the European project MEDILIGHT to translate the technology behind light stimulation treatments delivered in hospitals into a smart wearable system for the personalized light treatment of chronic wounds at home. Their attention was focused on blue light’s ability to stimulate ani-bacterial effects and accelerate healing.
