Powering the Future: Clustering Event on Perovskite PV Projects
January 23On January 23rd, 2025, AMIRES participated in the Clustering Event for Perovskite PV Projects, organized by the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) at its premises in Brussels.
The event brought together representatives from 17 Horizon Europe energy projects dedicated to advancing perovskite PV technology. AMIRES attended with two perovskite-related projects from our portfolio: LUMINOSITY and SuperTandem.
The meeting aimed to identify synergies between projects, provide insights into the policy landscape, and strengthen collaboration among participants. During the event, Horizon Europe’s photovoltaic energy priorities were outlined, along with recent EU energy policies affecting solar PV development. Discussions were structured into thematic sessions, addressing key challenges and opportunities in the perovskite PV field. Topics included the stability of perovskite solar cells and modules, technological trends, application requirements, scaling-up processes, and strategies for commercialization and competitiveness.
Key Takeaways:
- Compared to H2020, Horizon Europe places greater emphasis on innovation—focusing on design, recycling, maintenance, and end-of-life management of PV systems.
- Perovskite PV has achieved rapid efficiency improvements in a short time.
- Key challenges remain, including stability and durability, high-quality large-area deposition (with encapsulation as a major hurdle), and achieving long-term performance standards comparable to commercial solar technologies.
- Europe holds a strong position in perovskite PV development compared to other regions.
The event also featured a poster session, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and showcasing achievements from the participating projects.

The clustering event was a unique opportunity for face-to-face interactions within the Perovskite PV community, allowing participants to share first-hand experiences and define common challenges while assessing the current state of the technology. The discussions facilitated valuable exchanges on overcoming barriers and unlocking the full potential of the technology.
